Projects I have been involved in;
Stronger Passwords through Visual Authentication: handwing
This was my senior year research project into the HCI mechanisms for Authentication. A prototype system was developed using Coldfusion MX, with an Oracle Database. Administration was done via SQLplus and a custom Java admin program, communicating via JNDI. My thesis is available here.
GlaBay
I was project manager for a three-person team creating an online auction site, 'GlaBay'. This site provided the basic functions of an online auction site such as ebay, and included a 'My GlaBay' page which allows users to view auctions that they have won & lost, and those which they are bidding on, along with items which they are selling.
The site was coded using php, with embedded JavaScript to provide basic error checking (where possible), a feature that ebay to not employ, which can help reduce server load, but weeding out erroneous submissions (for example, by type checking fields prior to submit, and aborting, and alerting the user, on error).
The backend was implemented using MySQL, and Java asministration programs were produced to control the system operations, both automatically, and manually. The GlaBay mirror can be viewed here. Please feel free to 'register' and explore the site.
Time Travellers
Time Travellers is an interactive mutimedia project, aimed at providing an online 'tour' of Glasgow's Huntarian Museum, allowing people who do not have ready access to the museum to be able to see and enjoy some of the museum's exhibits. The rpoject was undertaken in Microsoft's cut-down version of SMIL, 'HTML+time', which allowed us to intergrate video, sound, and still pictures, and co-ordinate these along a timeline. Macromedia Flash was used for the introduction animation sequence.
